šŸ’– Invest Like a Woman:

What I learned (and loved) from our IWD Investing Night

šŸ‘‹ Hey, Mel here! Welcome to my newsletter. Every two weeks I dive deep into one story in the fintech world - covering banking, investments and crypto. This is the only newsletter that breaks it down for you in a fun, digestible and simple way. Just how it should be.

Lets get started!

Hey Fintech Queens & Kings šŸ‘‘,

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’m all about breaking down those intimidating walls around money, crypto, and investing. But last week, we took that mission offline and brought it to life in the most powerful way - with a room full of incredible women, real talk, and zero shame around asking the "real" questions.

Our event, "Invest Like a Woman" (hosted with torq.partners @ N26 for International Women’s Day), was honestly everything I hoped for. And since so many of you messaged me saying, ā€œWish I could have been there!ā€, here’s the full scoop, straight from me, Mel - your Fintech Girl inside and out.

šŸ’„ And if you were there (first of all, love you), I would so love to hear what you thought! Drop me a comment or share your takeaways HERE ā¬…ļø

And if you weren’t there, I’d also love to hear what you would like to see next time šŸ˜‰

Let’s break it down.

šŸ’¬ Why Invest Like a Woman?

You know that campaign ā€œRun Like a Girlā€ā€”where they flipped an insult into a power move? That was our energy. Because let’s face it:

Financial literacy is a fundamental pillar of independence and self-determination. When women are financially independent, we gain freedom of choice—to decide where and how we live, whom we share our lives with, and what careers we pursue.

Alina, Partner @ torq.partners

But here's the thing: we’re still underrepresented in the investing world, especially in crypto. Women tend to invest less, start later, and doubt ourselves way more than we should - even though studies show we often outperform men when we do invest (yes, really).

So this event was about getting loud, getting real, and getting started—whether that means buying your first ETF or finally dipping a toe into crypto without fear.

🌟 The Vibe Check: A Room Full of Women Owning Their Future

I’ll be honest - walking into a room full of women talking about money felt electric.
From seasoned investors to total beginners, we were all there for the same reason:
āž”ļø To learn.
āž”ļø To feel less alone in this journey.
āž”ļø To say goodbye to the "I’ll start investing later" trap.

We kicked things off with a little "who here has actually invested?" show of hands—and guess what?
āœ… Hands flew up.
āœ… Some people nervously half-raised theirs.
āœ… And some gave that "I’m here because I need to figure this out" look

And that’s exactly why we did this.

šŸŽ™ļø What We Talked About (And What Made People Gasp a Little)

šŸ’ø 1. Marie-Eve from Finance Sisters on Why Women Need to Invest

ā€œIf you think you can’t afford to invest, you can’t afford not to.ā€

Marie-Eve, Co-founder @ Finance Sisters

Marie-Eve was dropping truth bombs all night—reminding us that waiting until we ā€œknow everythingā€ is costing us money. She broke down why ETFs are a great starting point, how diversification keeps us sane, and why we need to stop thinking investing is only for the rich.

When she asked, "What’s the one thing holding you back from investing?" — I saw so many heads nodding when people said, ā€œFear of losing moneyā€ and ā€œNot knowing enough.ā€
āž”ļø Takeaway? Start small, but start.

šŸŖ™2. Me (Mel / Fintech Girl!) on Crypto without the Crazy

Ok, you all know I love crypto—but I keep it real. So when Alina asked, ā€œIf you’ve never touched crypto before, where do you start?ā€, here’s what I shared:

  • Bitcoin & Ethereum? Great places to start learning. Think of them as the "OG" assets.

  • Utility Tokens? This is where it gets exciting! These are like the "tech stocks" of the crypto world. They give you access to decentralized apps (think finance, gaming, Web3) and power entire ecosystems

  • Meme coins? Fun but please don’t invest your rent money there (and yes, we giggled about Dogecoin).

šŸ’„ And what blew people’s minds?

Investing in crypto today is like investing in Amazon 10 or 15 years ago—when it was just three people in a garage trying to build the next big thing.
Now, for the first time, we can be early investors in technology that could change the world—straight from our phones. No VC connections, no millions required.
We finally get to play in a game that was previously reserved for the ultra-wealthy.

Mel, Founder @ Fintech Girl

And yes—we also got real about how to keep your crypto safe (hello, scams are real), and why starting small, thinking long-term, and doing your research (DYOR) is the key to not getting burned.

šŸ’„ Hot Takes That Got the Loudest "Yasss" Moments

  • ā€œYou don’t need to be rich to start investing. You need to start investing to become rich.ā€

  • ā€œCrypto isn’t just for crypto bros—women need to be at that table.ā€

  • ā€œWe are not cautious, we invest with knowledge!—let’s flip that narrative.ā€

  • ā€œBecause let’s face it—if more women were in crypto, we’d probably have fewer money flowing into dog coins and more onto world-changing techā€ (me, maybe getting spicy 🫢)

šŸ“ˆ What’s Next? What Can You Do Right Now?

Here’s your Fintech Girl homework (but like, fun homework):

  1. Pick one action to take this week. Open a investment account. Buy an ETF. Google what a stablecoin is. Just one step.

  2. Talk about money with your friends. Share this post, send them a voice note—whatever gets the convo going.

  3. Hit me up with your questions or wins. Seriously. I want to know!

šŸ‘‰ And if you were at the event (or wish you were), I want to hear from you: [DROP YOUR THOUGHTS HERE]

Because this isn’t a one-time thing—it’s a movement.

šŸ’Œ Final Words from Your Fintech Girl

Queens & Kings, investing isn’t about becoming a Wolf of Wall Street type. It’s about Freedom. Choice. Power.
Whether you’re team "just opened my first savings account" or "been trading since 2015," you belong in this conversation.

And remember: Invest like a woman. Because we’ve been managing life, relationships, careers—trust me, we can manage our money too. šŸ’ŖšŸ’–

Until next time,

XOXO,

Fintech Girl šŸ’–
